“Rewind” by Lucky Rapp
On view June 2 to July 28, 2018
Artist reception on Saturday June 2, from 6-8pm
“Music can be a porthole through time – a way of relating, connecting, and remembering.” Lucky Rapp
‘Rewind’, the exhibition, is about rewinding memories through music. Whether song lyrics, classic album covers, or snippets of favorite songs, ‘Rewind’ is about reconnecting to memories that have morphed and melted over time.
The exhibition highlights 8 supersized (approx. 1.5 ft x 2 ft) cassette sculptures, each displaying song lyrics on visible moving reels, plus one classic cassette case cover. The works include such albums as George Michael’s Listen Without Prejudice, Hotel California by the Eagles, Prince’s Purple Rain, and AC/DC’s Back in Black, to Supertramp’s Breakfast in America, Please by the Pet Shop Boys, a single nostalgia inducing ‘mix tape’, and more.
In addition to the super-sized cassette sculptures, ‘Rewind’ includes Rapp’s ‘Golden Words’ series, featuring gold colored bricks embedded with music lyrics in a reflective gold setting.
