Audra Weaser – Enchantment, September 28th to November 2nd, 2024

Sep 28 — Nov 2, 2024

K. Imperial Fine Art is pleased to present Enchantment, a brand new exhibition by Audra Weaser. Enchantment is a process-heavy series of abstracted realms and atmosphere that bring to mind ethereal waterscapes, dappled sunlight at dusk or dawn, and shimmers at the beginning or conclusion of a dream. The works will be on view from September 28th to November 2nd, 2024. The gallery and the artist welcome the public to the opening reception, on Thursday, October 3rd, from 5-7 p.m.

Weaser is an L.A.-based artist who has honed an intricate artmaking procedure over time. To begin she immerses herself in the natural world, heading out to forests and shorelines to contemplate the processes at work there. Upon returning to the studio, she encapsulates this feeling via intuitive, gestural mark making onto a canvas. She then builds up layers of color, topping them all off with a veil of white paint. The composition truly begins to take shape and come to life as Weaser goes back in and selectively sands away at the surface, pulling back the veil to reveal the stratified pigments beneath. The result is an immersive, enchanted scape flush with depths that are almost sculptural in their executio

The years of dedication and experimentation that culminated into Enchantment have their roots in a single childhood memory. According to Weaser, “I was looking at these home videos my father took. They’re in the forest, and he’s panning up the trees, and the light is coming through… I like to refer back to those, or prints or photos I have taken… It is just flashes that I remember… It is so beautiful and uncluttered, and just enjoyable to go back to that peaceful feeling.” Weaser’s body of work, seen through this lens, honors the ephemerality of memory. The twists and turns of the mind, through dreams and consciousness, bubble up into sparkling compositions. Enchantment showcases some of her most mystical pieces yet, rendered in a stripped-down palette of blue and gold hues. The cloudy, shifting surfaces are interspersed with flashes of light. They are as much flashes of memory on a wistful mind as sunshine glancing off a still pond.

Weaser grew up in coastal Southern California, where she now works and resides. She has exhibited extensively locally, nationally, and abroad. Her art can be found in private and public collections throughout the world—from New York and San Francisco to Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi, and Singapore.

Enchantment will be on display from September 28th to November 2nd, 2024. The gallery is by appointment only. Please contact the gallery at  kimperialfineart@me.com or 415.277.7230 for inquiries or to make an appointment.
