Charlotte Evans, I Sing for the Birds that Sang for Us

Oct 14 — Nov 14, 2026

Marrow Gallery is proud to welcome back British painter Charlotte Evans for her second solo exhibition. Evans finds inspiration in the quiet act of becoming familiar with a place through walking, observing, and intentionally engaging with the world around her. This attentiveness to her surroundings is reflected in the detailed aspect of her work. Working primarily in oil, her saturated jewel tones highlight the beauty of the natural world.  Evans‘ strong linear contours, and signature fragmented planes of color recall the luminous quality of stained glass, while her stylized figures and elaborate botanical settings evoke the emotion and imagination of the dramatic backdrops to stage settings. Rooted in landscape, her paintings often include various flora and fauna; figures, birds, flowers, and stags become central players, creating imagined worlds that speak to movement, migration, changing seasons, and the many places we come to call home. Evans‘ work offers viewers a chance to pause, look closer, and rediscover the world.

Born in 1981 in London, England, now based in Toronto, Canada, CharlotteEvans’ work has been exhibited across the United States, Canada, and the UK. With recent solo exhibitions including her first solo shows, Let’s Plant Trees and Watch Them Grow at Marrow Gallery in San Francisco (2024) and Kiss the Joy that Flies at Candida Stevens Gallery in the UK (2023). Her work was also included in place–displace at Cromwell Place in London (2022), an exhibition exploring the ways artists carry, redefine, and reconnect with ideas of home after moving between places. Her paintings have been featured in publications including Nasty Magazine, Canadian Art Junkie, Rise Art, Saatchi Art, and London Paint Club.
