Caldwell Snyder Gallery presents a curated exhibition uniting paintings Alejandro Rivera and Jose Villalobos, creating a dynamic dialogue between abstraction and surrealism. The exhibition pairs Jose Villalobos’s structured and architectural abstracts with the whimsical and surreal paintings by Alejandro Rivera.
José Villalobos is a distinguished contemporary Mexican artist whose abstract practice is defined by a sustained exploration of light, color, and spatial perception. It is expressed through carefully structured compositions of geometric forms and layered planes. Rather than depicting imagery, Villalobos creates visual environments that invite contemplation, where luminosity, texture, and balance generate subtle movement across the surface.
Alejandro Rivera’s paintings are an exploration of the profound interconnectedness between humans and the objects they create. By placing these objects in surreal and dreamlike settings, he aims to evoke a sense of wonder and contemplation. The juxtaposition of the familiar and the fantastic invites viewers to question the nature of reality and the boundaries between the physical and the metaphysical.
The Exhibition will be on view from March 12 – April 19
