Of Water And Sand – New Charcoal Paintings by Carlos Gomez Mojica

Jul 20 — Sep 16, 2018

Carlos R. Gómez Mojica (1986 Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) is a visual artist, drawer and hyperrealist painter.

He studied visual arts in the School of Design of Altos de Chavón in La Romana, Dominican Republic (2004-2006), as well as in the Faculty of Arts and Design of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (2006-2008).

What is the true function of our exterior, that is, of our skin?

What would happen if human beings looked more or less the same? What happens when we appear to be different from each other?

The color of our skin has divided societies since ancient times. Humanity has been immersed in the issue of discrimination, whether one is intolerant or a victim of bigotry. We do not even realize that  ignorance is the cause of this vile behavior?

The pigments in our skin have been such a powerful topic for me that I have taken it as the basis of my artistic career; I explore and use my art to extract what overwhelms me, to say what I would not otherwise know, and to question what my predecessors never asked.
