Andra Norris Gallery is proud to present LEGENDS, an online exhibition presenting a new body of oil paintings by Willard Dixon. In this series, Dixon turns his attention toward the visual artists, jazz musicians, and other cultural icons who shaped our artistic and musical landscape, reimagining them through a contemporary perspective. Working from small black-and-white photographs found in books and catalogues, Dixon conjures color entirely from his imagination to create portraits that summon both time and place while honoring the spirit of his subjects.
For more than five decades, Willard Dixon has been celebrated as one of America’s foremost contemporary realists. Known for his luminous landscapes of the American West, his work has been widely exhibited and collected, and praised for its ability to capture atmosphere, light, and the quiet expanses of nature.
